CACCC WELCOMES Dr. Wei-Chien Lee

Alice Yin-Ping Chan, BSN, RN, PHN is a nurse manager at the Medicaid Home and Community Base Services Program of the California State Department of Health Services. She is co-founder of the California Healthcare Interpreter Association and has conducted state and community medical interpreter training programs. She has also served as Sacramento area community leader/liaison for AANCART (Asian American Network of Cancer Awareness, Research and Training) since 2001. She served on the KVIE, Public Television Community Advisory Board. Alice was named “Outstanding Woman of Color” in 2001 by the International Association for Women of Color.

Annie Chang,
BA currently serves as a Public Health Researcher in National Linguistic & Cultural Programs, National Diversity at Kaiser Permanente. She has earned a BA from the University of California, Berkeley in Communications, with an emphasis in Journalism and Film and is now working toward an MD in public health, where she wants to serve vulnerable and marginalized populations. Annie is an untiring advocate for refugee and immigrant rights.

Steven Chen, PhD
on computer science from Northwestern University, has been working in software industry since 1996. Steven has been serving as a volunteer for the Mahabodhi Buddhist Society (MBS), teaching meditation for years. He is a current respite program volunteer of the American Cancer Society, California Chinese Unit. In 2006, he joined the CACCC as a volunteer and served on the CACCC steering committee. Steven also serves on the CACCC speaker’s bureau.

Judy Citko, JD is Executive Director of the California Coalition for Compassionate Care, a statewide collaboration of over 60 organizations, representing healthcare providers, consumers, and regulatory agencies, devoted to improving end-of-life and palliative care for Californians. Ms. Citko has nearly 20 years of experience in healthcare. Before joining the Coalition, she worked as a lobbyist and lawyer for hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and managed care providers.

Tin T. Hla, MD, MBA is a medical oncologist practicing in the San Jose area since 1982. She has been very active in community and professional organizations. She served as President of the American Cancer Society-California Chinese Unit, served on the Council of the Santa Clara County Medical Society, and was President of the United States Burmese Medical Association. Dr. Hla also served as chair of the Department of Medicine, San Jose Medical Center. She is the recipient of the Lane W. Adams Award from the American Cancer Society for outstanding Service to underserved cancer patients and families.

Wei-Chien Lee, PhD is a licensed Psychologist and National Certified Counselor. A member of the faculty of San Jose State University, she serves as a committee member of the National Academic Advising Association. She received her Ph.D. degree from Purdue University and completed her postdoctoral training at San Jose State University and Stanford University. Wei-Chien has served as a subject expert for the California Board of Psychology, and given presentations at numerous national and regional conferences. Mental Health Ambassador,one of the program she created, received the 2009 national Magoon Excellence in Counseling Award.

Lisa Liu has served as board member, vice president and president of the American Cancer Society California Chinese Unit. During her term as ACS-CCU president, she launched a pilot respite program, the first such program in American Cancer Society history. The respite program currently provides services to five geographic regions in northern California.

Lily Lu, MSN, NP
has been working for Kaiser Permanente Santa Clara Medical Center for 20 years.  She worked in Cardiology/CHF clinic and Internal Medicine clinic.  She has experiences in developing curriculum, patient education materials and teaching HF (heart failure) classes.  She is currently a nurse practitioner working in cardiac EP (electrophysiology) specializing in arrhythmia treatments and procedures.
Pauline Nee, RN, MSN has been working in a medical oncology unit for over 20 years. She is currently a nurse manager at the Kaiser Medical Center in Santa Clara. Pauline has been a long time translation and education volunteer for the American Cancer Society, California Chinese Unit. She is also a founding member and board member of the CACCC and is currently co-chair of the Education Committee.

Sherry Shih has been a Tzu Chi Foundation volunteer for over twenty years. She is currently on the medical team and the Public Relations team. She is also founded the Tzu Chi Northern California Dialysis Support Group. Sherry, a mother of three, has worked in the computer industry for over 20 years, working for Solectron and Acer. She currently owns her own consultant company.

Sandy Chen Stokes, RN, MSN a geriatric nurse specialist and public health nurse, is founder and Executive Director of the CACCC. Sandy served on the Access Diversity Advisory Council of the National Hospice and Palliative Care Organization, on the Alzheimer’s Association Greater Sacramento Area Board; she co-founded the California Chapter of the American Psychiatric Nurses Association, and was American Cancer Society-California Chinese Unit President for 2000-2001. Sandy continues to serve on the American Cancer Society California Division’s Asian American /Pacific Islander Team and the Hospice of the Valley Advisory Board.

May Louie Sung, MPH (Public Health) has served the American Cancer Society in numerous capacities for over 26 years. She is currently Vice President of Health Promotions for Mission Delivery in the California Division. She also provides supervisory oversight for the California Chinese Unit located in Fremont. May also currently serves as volunteer Community Director for the National AANCART (Asian American Network for Cancer Awareness, Research and Training) funded by the National Cancer Institute.

Janice Tsai, BS is the Mainframe Systems Software Specialist Supervisor for the State of California Franchise Tax Board. Janice has been an active volunteer in the Sacramento area since 1997 for organizations such as the Alzheimer's Association, American Cancer Society, First Call Home Care & Hospice, the Asian Community Center and Dharma Drum Mountain Buddhist Association.

Jackie Wong, MSW, LCSW heads the social work department at On Lok Lifeways in San Francisco and the South Bay. She has over 16 years of experiences working with the frail elderly from different cultural and ethnic backgrounds. Jackie represents On Lok at local, statewide, national and international levels, focusing on issues such as end-of-life care and caregiver education. She also appears as guest lecturer at local colleges and universities and presents at various conferences.

Jeanne L. Wun, BA (Sociology) is Community Relations Manager for Hospice of the Valley. Jeanne has over 20 years of experience in sales, marketing, marketing communications and public relations with high technology companies. Prior to joining Hospice of the Valley, she was a marketing consultant for companies that included high-tech start-ups, a landscape architect, an importer/distributor, an award-winning author, and a nonprofit hospice. Jeanne is an alumnus of the Institute for Women’s Leadership.
